The Labour Party (LP) has responded to allegations that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, traveled abroad to seek foreign funding for his campaign.
Abayomi Oluwafemi, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, denied the allegations in an interview with Vanguard.

Oluwafemi described the claims that the party was seeking foreign funding for its activities as part of an attempt by the opposing parties to cast a negative light on its presidential candidate.

“It is ridiculous that our political opponents have descended to a new low to suggest that our party is oblivious to electoral laws,” he said.

“Our candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is off to a fast start.

“He is reaching out to Nigerians living abroad, the majority of whom have lost faith in the current administration and see no reason to return home to invest.”

“He is preparing them to reconsider because the incoming Labour Party-led administration, which he and Datti will lead by the grace of God, will provide an enabling environment for direct foreign investment needed to revive our ailing economy, which the APC has unfortunately destroyed.”

Oluwafemi also ruled out any possibility of a feud between the party’s leadership and the presidential candidate over campaign funding.
